More information

Family-centred practice in early childhood empowers and nurtures collaborative partnerships with whānau, a concept deeply embedded in Te Whāriki. Over the past decade, it has gained momentum, expanding on early intervention efforts to support parents and whānau with diverse learners. This workshop delves into the critical role of involving families in decision-making processes, offering valuable insights into practices that enhance the learning experience for children, whānau, and kaiako.

In the workshop, participants will

  • explore the foundations of family-centred practice and its significance within early childhood and Te Whāriki
  • develop practical strategies to understand whānau ecology, gaining insights into parents' aspirations and values as decision-makers for their child's learning
  • share ideas and strategies for inclusive collaboration with whānau, creating experiences and spaces that celebrate diverse families and foster a strong sense of belonging in your setting.

Let's value the profound impact that families have on education, acknowledging their crucial role in shaping a supportive foundation for children's learning journeys
