More information

The Early Childhood Council is inviting you to an exclusive network meeting focused on the Waha Rumaki and the Pacific Immersion Teachers’ Allowance (PITA) available for Māori/Pacific immersion and bilingual services. ECC will be supporting centres to apply for the two funding allowances, on behalf of kaiako.

ECC  is convening this urgently because if you do not apply before 8 May, your teachers will miss out on a potential back payment of allowances to 1 January 2024

What are the allowances?

The Waha Rumaki and PITA serve to support teachers to carry out their work in immersion and bilingual teaching and learning environments. Significant allowances can be paid to a teacher working at a service where the 51% or more of the curriculum is delivered in a single Māori/Pacific language.

In this meeting we will focus on:

  • A brief overview of the allowances
  • Detailed guidance of the application process
  • How you may be eligible to apply even if your curriculum is not delivered at 51% in a Māori/Pacific language
  • Answering your questions

This is a great opportunity for you to connect with your community, share your perspectives and knowledge. ECC are also looking at ways we can better support Māori and Pacific services in general.

This hui/fono is not exclusive to ECC members and we encourage you to invite anyone who may be interested.

We will provide some kai for attendees.
