The Food Act 2014 was established to protect consumers and users of food from safety risks. Childcare centres that provide food need to meet compliance requirements such as verification, competency, and record-keeping.

All early childhood education centres that provide food must meet the requirements of National Programme 2 and need to make sure the food they serve is safe. Some centres need to be registered and verified and ensure they are compliant with food safety requirements. This includes keeping records that demonstrate food is stored and prepared safely.
