Learning Stories and the Principles of Assessment

What is the role of assessment in ECE and what should it look like? Good assessment aims to make valued learning visible, showing the complexity of learning within a meaningful context. This workshop draws on the socio-cultural perspective and the bio-ecological model underpinning Te Whāriki. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss -

  • The Purpose of Assessment
  • The Key Characteristics of good Assessment
  • The concept of ‘ako’, using a variety of perspectives.

The workshop will focus on the Principles of Assessment as guidance and challenge for writing effective Learning Stories. Participants will also be able to explore the role of Learning Stories in the cycle of assessment, planning, and evaluation.

Please bring along your copy of Te Whāriki.

Facilitator: Katina Beauchamp
