Retaining and Supporting Staff - Induction and Mentoring (Online Workshop)
Your people are the most important part of your centre, staff retention and development are key to maintaining a high quality level of care. Inducting and mentoring staff are crucial to ensure teachers are skilled and satisfied in their role.
Sue will cover inducting staff in your centre to ensure they have a good understanding of the philosophy and values your centre upholds. This part of the session covers:
- Steps and documentation required in an induction
- Ensuring the employee is comfortable and welcomed with/by peers
- Setting and reviewing appraisal processes
Katina will cover the Teaching Council’s Mentoring Guidelines and the Principles of the Professional Growth Cycle. You will learn:
- How to ensure mentoring relationships are supported by a mentoring agreement
- How to support a teacher’s Professional Growth Cycle and how the PGC is linked to professional development
- How to align professional teacher obligations with an employee performance review as per GMA7
This workshop is facilitated by Sue Kurtovich and Katina Beauchamp, a recording will be made available to all registrants.

About Sue Kurtovich:
Sue Kurtovich is a specialist in early childhood centre management and administration. Sue was a centre owner/operator for 15 years and the former President and then CEO of the Early Childhood Council from 1996 – 2008.
Sue has an in-depth understanding of the sector and the challenges centres face. For over three decades she has helped centre owners, managers and boards with practical, real-world advice that has made a genuine difference in the way they run their centres. Sue has been invited to forums around the world to share her knowledge and experience.
Sue has extensive knowledge of the ECE regulatory environment, and a strong policy and advocacy background. She is experienced in the development of support materials and the design and delivery of professional learning and development programmes for early childhood education centre owners, managers and teachers.
About Katina Beauchamp
Katina is the Senior Policy Officer at the Early Childhood Council. She is a qualified ECE teacher with a Masters of Arts focusing on language barriers in ECE. Katina’s career includes a practicing teacher, head teacher for over nine years, research assistant, therapy assistant and has participated in school boards of trustees for a number of years.
