We have been approached by a Wellington member to request our support for an initiative to help our members in Christchurch. The aim is to raise funds to enable centres to rebuild/restock, help families return to some normality and allow teachers to care for children as soon as possible.
The proposal is for ECE’s to hold Garage Sales around the country. These will be centre by centre events. They will allow families and teachers to get together and ‘do their bit’. I think we all feel a little helpless in the face of such devastation in Christchurch and this will be a tangible and very doable exercise. One garage sale will help but many garage sales could make a huge difference.
The ECC is a registered Charitable Trust and as such authorised to collect funds raised. We will hold these funds for the explicit use of our members in Canterbury.
Some ideas for your centre garage sale:
Please let us know if you will consider taking part in ‘Kids for Kids’ Garage Sales. With enough support we will contact media to get the event advertised nationally.
Email email@example.com to express your interest.
ECC members can click here to discuss this idea in the online forum
Send your adopted centre cards of support and follow their progress as they re-build and just be part of what they are going through.
You could hold fundraising activities for your adopted centre and maybe help with the little extras that insurance might not cover.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be paired up with a centre in the earthquake zone.
Many centres throughout New Zealand have been running fundraising activities. Funds can be donated directly to a centre, or through the Red Cross. Alternatively the ECC is happy to collect donations and manage the distribution of funds.
Funds can be deposited in the Early Childhood Council’s account at the BNZ (02 0278 0099404 25) Put 'earthquake' in the reference line and email email@example.com with the details if you require a receipt.
If you have resources you can spare to support a centre in Christchurch, either adopt-a-centre or send them to the Early Childhood Council and we’ll distribute them to the worst-hit centres.
Please make sure resources are in a good order.
